Correct installation method of carbon brush

1. Grind the arc surface of the carbon brush to make it basically coincide with the commutator or collector ring.

Due to the gap between the carbon brush and the brush holder, and the small deformation of the fixed parts of the brush holder (such as brush rod, etc.) under the action of stress, the radius of curvature of the carbon brush section will be slightly larger than that of the commutator or collector ring. Therefore, during the operation of the motor, not all the cross-sectional area of the carbon brush is in contact with the commutator or collector ring, but only a part of the area. Therefore, it is necessary to grind the arc surface of the carbon brush to make it basically consistent with the commutator or collector ring. In practical operation, the contact area between the arc surface of the carbon brush and the commutator or collector ring shall not be less than 75% of the section of a single carbon brush.

It should be noted that the brush arc grinding at the factory is only rough grinding, and the arc grinding is generally carried out on the motor. During grinding, use glass sandpaper (do not use emery paper) to cover it on the commutator or collector ring, apply spring pressure on the carbon brush, and pull the sandpaper along the rotation direction of the motor (lift the carbon brush when pulling back the sandpaper) until the arc surface of the carbon brush is basically consistent with the commutator or collector ring. After grinding, the ground powder and sand shall be cleaned, the motor shall idle for 30 minutes, and then operate at 25% load. After the brush is in good contact with the commutator or collector ring, the motor can be put into normal operation.

2. Proper clearance shall be reserved between the carbon brush and the inner wall of the brush holder

After the carbon brush is installed into the brush holder, it is appropriate that the brush can move up and down freely. Only in this way can it ensure that the carbon brush can maintain close contact with the commutator or collector ring under the pressure of the spring. Therefore, there must be a certain gap between the four sides of the carbon brush and the inner wall of the brush holder. Practice has proved that this gap is generally between 0.1 0.3 mm. Neither too large nor too small. If the clearance is too small, the carbon brush may be stuck in the brush holder, the spring cannot compress the brush, and the motor operation is meaningless; If the gap is too large, the carbon brush will swing in the frame, which will not only produce noise, but also spark, which will have a destructive impact on the commutator or collector ring.

3. The distance between the lower edge of the brush holder and the surface of the commutator or collector ring shall be kept within 2 4mm. If the distance is too small, the brush holder is easy to rub the commutator or collector ring; If it is too large, the carbon brush is easy to move and cause damage.

4. Ensure that the carbon brush works in the surface of the commutator or collector ring and shall not be close to the edge of the collector ring. If the carbon brush is improperly installed in the cold state, the carbon brush may not fully contact the surface of the collector ring after the motor shaft expands in the hot state.

Installation method and precautions of carbon brush

1. It is forbidden to install carbon brushes of different brands and materials in the same motor.

2. Pay special attention to whether the spring is pressed down well during installation and whether it hinders the use of carbon brush.

3. Pay attention to whether the fixing bolts of the copper wire are stable and whether the fixing method hinders the use of the carbon brush.

4. There shall be no oil stain on the friction surface of carbon brush and rotating parts.
